Streamlining International Grantmaking

Many in the charitable sector had concerns with guidelines on international charity the Treasury Department issued after 9/11. Dissatisfied with the guidelines' effectiveness, the Council on Foundations and over 40 other charities, including Independent Sector, created an alternative.

Independent Sector is a supporting partner of an effort by the Council on Foundations and TechSoup Global for developing a more efficient system for determining whether foreign grantees qualify as equivalents of U.S. public charities to meet one of the key IRS prescriptions for cross-border grants.
